Turkish Convoy in Lahore

Pakistan has been always famous for her friendship and hospitality for their guests from other countries. Delegates from other countries are warmly welcomed by not only politicians but the public too. Tempting food, special decorations, and cleanliness on roads, and moreover, special security plans are considered pleasant parts of their arrangements.

Yesterday I experienced something extraordinary different here in Lahore. From early morning LWMC were paying special attention on roads cleaning. It seems like that something special was going to pass through these crystal clear roads. Flower pots were arranged in order. Greenery looked fresher more than its ever been.  One side of the road was being decorated by special friendship banners, large hoardings. The whole city was adorned like a bride. What was that? It's none other than just showing off practice to another convoy. This time, these preparations were for Turkish President and his convoy. Now quite strange things happen which never happen like before. For the visit of 3-4 hours of Lahore, the whole city had been paralyzed since early morning.

 Half days were announced in all educational institutes which were situated on convoy routes. The whole city was jam packed from 3’o clock till midnight. Alternates route were given but for the sake of security purposes roads were closed and on alternate routes, people were dealing with traffic jam. People were facing issues as well as shops were being closed on convoy route. What are we showing in the name of security? Is this a soft image of Pakistan? that we are closing shops, schools, roads for just 3-4 hours visit. Six thousand police were performing duties on roads. Does this happen same in other countries as well? That whole city went into hibernate mode? The answer is I don’t think so. At night special fountains were installed on the route, people were on road and showing their culture practices. People were waving hands, dancing and showing that they are extraordinary happy after dealing trouble of whole day. The special cultural show was arranged and none other than tempting Pakistani food was waiting for guests as well.
